ChatGPT can now analyze documents and spreadsheets on your Google Drive

A new "Connect Apps" feature integrates ChatGPT with cloud services such as Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.

OpenAI introduced several updates to its AI chatbot ChatGPT during its "Spring Update" live broadcast. These include a new "Connect Apps" feature that integrates ChatGPT with cloud services such as Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.

After unveiling its new GPT-4o model, OpenAI announces the ability to import files from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, for paying chatbot users. The new feature enables ChatGPT to analyze documents, spreadsheets, slides and other cloud files to provide insights and summaries. "Connect Apps" is currently being rolled out to select ChatGPT Enterprise users.

New feature simplifies user interaction with ChatGPT

The integration of "Connect Apps" with Google Drive and Microsoft's OneDrive enables users to select documents in their drive and ask questions about them. For example, users can ask ChatGPT to provide action points from slides. The feature simplifies access by removing the need to copy and paste content from different files into ChatGPT. "You can now customize and interact with bar, line, pie and scatter charts in conversation. Hover over chart elements, ask additional questions or select colors. When you're ready, download it for use in presentations or documents," says Open AI.

What about data confidentiality? OpenAI says: "We don't train on ChatGPT Team and Enterprise customer data, and ChatGPT Plus users can opt out of training via their data controls". The latter option is accessible from the account settings.

Limited to Enterprise and Business customers?

For the time being, the availability of the "Connect applications" feature remains confidential. Indeed, no official communication has been made by OpenAI, Google or Microsoft. Speculation suggests that integration could be limited to Team and Enterprise users, but nothing concrete has been disclosed. So we'll have to wait for further developments to determine whether the "Connect Apps" option will expand its user base, and which demographics will benefit from this integration.
