Photoshop: discover Firefly, its new AI

Adobe has recently integrated AI into Photoshop. It's called Firefly, and its job is to analyze images and improve them automatically.

How does Firefly work?

Thanks to its new Generative Fill feature, Firefly enables Photoshop users to integrate and modify elements of their visuals by means of a simple written request. While this new functionality is currently only available in Beta version, the finalized version should be released to all Photoshop users by the end of 2023.

Generative Filling lets you :

• Generate objects: simply select an area on your visual, and explain textually what you want to add.
• Create backgrounds : once again, you need to select an empty zone, and write your request.
• Extend visuals: to enlarge the image without distorting it, generative filling lets you add harmonious content to your image.
• Remove objects: again by selecting a part of the visual, you can remove unwanted elements from your image.

Generative Filling, is it really useful?

The answer is yes. This suite of AI-optimized functions lets you enhance an image in just a few seconds , just the way you imagine it. The time it saves is incomparable. Where we used to have to perform a series of manual actions with little intellectual value, artificial intelligence takes care of them for us.

What's the difference between Generative Filling and Adobe Firefly?

Adobe Firefly is what Adobe describes as "the new family of creative and generative AI models, designed for safe, professional use". The Generative Fill tool is therefore one of the many AI tools that Adobe intends to develop for its software.

What else is new in Photoshop?

This new feature is accompanied by even more innovative and interesting tools for Adobe Photoshop content creators. Predefined adjustments with automatic filters will be offered, enabling creators to preview changes to their images live.

A deletion tool will be added to the list of new features. Although it is already possible to remove unwanted elements from a visual in a matter of seconds, Photoshop intends to optimize the speed of this action, by offering an even faster and more efficient tool.

How do I install Photoshop Beta?

To use the AI tools generated by the Adobe suite, you need to download the Photoshop (Beta) application. Go to the Application Beta tab in Creative Cloud and click on the Install button for the Photoshop (Beta) application.

The use of AI tools is becoming commonplace in content creation professions. While some see them as the enemy, we see them as efficient, time-saving tools.
