Skyrock announces the definitive closure of Skyblog

Skyrock has announced that it will close the Skyblog platform on August 21, 2023, deleting with it all the blogs created on its site.

Who among Gen Z hasn't had a skyblog ? Forgotten by all since the explosion of social networking, skyblog initially enjoyed an impressive following, reaching 17th place among the most visited sites in 2007.

For those of you who, like me, created your first Skyblog communities, we're watching with nostalgia as one of France's Internet pioneers crumbles .

Skyrock has announced that it will close the Skyblog platform on August 21, 2023, deleting all blogs created on the site.

In fact, it's good news for the adults we've become. The closure of Skyblog means we don't have to explain our content to our children, who would inevitably end up finding old photos of us on the Internet.

Back to the 2000s

Skyblog's closure has brought back a whole host of memories, tugging at our nostalgic heartstrings. As children of the 90s, we were immersed in the golden age of the web. Our daily post-school routine consisted of three steps: turn on the computer, open MSN, open Skyblog.

We navigated between sending Wizz and writing new blog posts. On Skyblog, we called ourselves XX-La-Miss-Rock-XX, LaLO0veusedu75, Emercik60-XD, we wrote in SMS language and punctuation overload (such as: !!!), was not yet forbidden by the style font. Each of our sentences ended with "mdr" "xD" "lol", because everything was so funny. "lol", because everything was always funny. We were emos, depressives, philosophers, fans of PhotoScape montages and pixelated webcam photos. Using the family camera, we invented the first selfies. Charmed, The Scott Brothers, Smallville, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries- back then, TV wasn't boring. We downloaded 2000s rock illegally on MP3 Converter, watched 90 minutes of free streaming on MegaVideo and downloaded movies on eMule. Hadopi you say? Not even afraid.

Skyblog explains

On its official website, Skyrock explains:

"For us at Skyrock, we're immensely proud of this trajectory, this ascent where each was a star connected to all the others. But we're not nostalgic. The best is always ahead. Today, we've created Skredthe world's first secure messaging service of European origin, with 17 million users worldwide. A new user every 15 seconds in Dubai, Beijing, Limoges, Jakarta, Khartoum... And Skred is ranked among the world's top seven messaging services by the reference site "The Verge". So why a messaging service? In the 20th century, freedom of expression meant talking to everyone; in the 21st, it means choosing who listens. With a peer-to-peer system, no one can eavesdrop on your conversations on Skred. Our mission for freedom continues, and grows."

Find your skyblog

If, like me, you're wondering what happened to your teenage blog, you can find it by typing your old username in the Skyrock site search bar. For those who don't want to lose any of those blessed years of great creation, Skyblog explains how to save your blog:

"WebCopy is a simple and effective tool that will allow you to keep a copy of your blog offline, including text, images and videos."

The end of an era

It's time to say goodbye to the man who inspired a whole generation to create content and share it more widely. Thanks Skyblog, we had a blast.
