Instagram profile card: turn your profile into a digital business card

Instagram profile cards: a digital business card to foster connections.

Looking to grow your Instagram community? Good news, Meta is rolling out profile cards on its social network, a kind of digital business card, to make connections easier.

How do Instagram profile cards work?

After testing them with selected creators over the past two months, Instagram is rolling out Instagram profile cards for all accounts.

Described in a press release as " an IG digital business card ", the Instagram profile card gives an overview of your account. The idea is simple: the card, which is double-sided, features the elements of your account on one side, namely your photo, bio elements and associated links, and on the second side, a QR code that links to your profile. The icing on the cake: thebackground can be customized with the visual of your choice.

When asked by Techcrunch about this new feature, Meta said it was aimed primarily at responding to the new uses of Gen Z, who use their Instagram account as a CV. Put simply, the idea is simple: to slowly evolve personal profiles into professional ones, and encourage more users to "commoditize" their profiles.

This is hardly surprising, given a recent Meta report revealing that more than half of Generation Z want to become influencers. From now on, both seed and established influencers will be able to share their profile cards with companies and brands quickly and easily.

Meta also said that the profile card was aimed at making connections easier and expanding its network by making it easier to share its account in Instagram groups or online events.

Although Instagram has allowed users to share their accounts via QR codes since 2018, it seems the feature has never been a significant success, with few people seemingly aware of the option.

The new profile cards offer a more advanced way of doing this. Instead of simply displaying a QR code, it's now possible to give others an insight into one's interests and the content published on one's feed, which could lead to more connections than a standard QR code... or so Meta hopes.
