Instagram is more popular than TikTok

In 2023, 16.5% of Internet users named Instagram as their favorite social network.

Instagram is more popular than TikTok and Facebook: 16.5% of Internet users have named it as their number one social network in 2023.

With over 2.4 billion monthly active users and almost half a billion people using it daily, Instagram is in the top 5 of social networks with the most active users. And although Facebook and YouTube have a higher number of users (3 billion and 2.5 billion respectively), according to data presented by OnlyAccounts.io Instagram would be more popular than the two social media giants.

Instagram is twice as popular as TikTok

The social networking landscape is constantly evolving and highly competitive, and platforms that can maintain user engagement and provide effective advertising solutions have a better chance of long-term success. Instagram particularly stands out on both counts. According to HubSpot's 2023 Social Media Marketing Report, nearly a quarter of marketers said Instagram offered them the greatest potential for audience growth in 2023, ahead of TikTok, Facebook or YouTube. What's more, most social network users also named it as their preferred platform. Indeed, according to the latest Digital 2024 Global Overview Report, +16% (almost 1% more than a year earlier) puts the social network on top of the podium, ahead of Facebook, YouTube and TikTok. According to the Global Overview report, Facebook ranks second (12.8%). Finally, according to the DataReportal survey, Instagram is twice as popular as TikTok. Although both platforms and their short formats have profoundly changed the social media landscape, only 7.4% of those surveyed said TikTok was their preferred choice. At 3.2%, X (formerly Twitter) remains stable compared to 2022. Finally, Line, Pinterest and Snapchat close the gap with 1.7%, 1.5% and 1.3% respectively.

Viewing time: TikTok is king

Paradoxically, while Instagram is the preferred platform, it is not the most widely used. The Digital World Synthesis 2024 report shows that Android users spent an average of 15 hours and 50 minutes per month on the app, almost four hours more than the previous year.

TikTok remains the absolute king in this category, with a monthly average of 34 hours and 08 minutes, some 10 hours more than in 2022. YouTube and Facebook are also ahead of Instagram. Statistics show that YouTube users spent more than 28 hours a month using the application in 2023, and 19 hours and 47 minutes for Facebook. Snapchat came bottom of the table with three hours and 33 minutes, 20 minutes more than the previous year.
