Threads: the Twitter developed by Meta has arrived

Early last week, the brand-new application developed by Meta made a sneaky appearance in the Google Play Store. What is Threads, Meta's new network?

Early last week, the brand-new application developed by Meta made a sneaky appearance in the Google Play Store. A few days later, the social network landed with great fanfare in the United States, creating a veritable buzz around it.

Threads, the new Twitter?

This new Twitter launched by Meta is called Threads, a surprising choice since a messaging app named by the same name had been launched by Meta in 2021, before being discontinued a few months later.

Alessandro Peluzzi, one of the app's developers , recently shared images of this new Twitter. As you can see, the resemblance to Elon Musk's network is striking. It's a network for sharing short messages, where you can chat with your followers. Not much new in the tropics, apart from the possibility of transferring your IG name to Threads.

In the application description on Google Play Store, we find :

"Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from what interests you today to what's trending tomorrow. Whatever topic interests you, you can follow and connect directly with your favorite creators and others who love the same things - or create a devotee group to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world."

Is Threads benefiting from Twitter's fall?

Yes, since Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter, a significant proportion of the social network's free options have become chargeable, and are now part of Twitter's premium package called Twitter Blue. What's more, Meta is rumored to have recruited a dozenformer Twitter employees.

Twitter threatens legal action against Threads

In the middle of last week, a letter was sent directly to Mark Zuckerberg. In it, Twitter lawyer Alex Spiro mentions:

" Twitter reserves the right to seek civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice to prevent any further retention, disclosure or use of its intellectual property by Meta."

Hostilities are clearly just beginning, and the Musk - Zuckerberg duel looks set to be a tense one. For our part, we can't wait to see Meta's new app hit European stores.

Threads, when's it coming out?

The application has already been launched in the United States, but Europe will have to wait a little longer. However, for the more impatient among you, there are hacks for downloading the platform. If you're interested, click here to find out how to download Threads.
