Instagram and Facebook bug: what happened?

Yesterday afternoon, Meta's social networks (Instagram, Facebook and Messenger), were unavailable. Here's a look back at this general bug.

Yesterday afternoon, Meta's social networks(Instagram, Facebook and Messenger), were unavailable. For a few hours, users simply couldn't access the platforms. But what happened?

Instagram and Facebook: a widespread bug?

From 4.30pm onwards, Facebook users found themselves disconnected, while on Instagram it was impossible to refresh the News Feed or even post content.

Meta spokesman Andy Stone clarified the situation in a tweet:

"We are aware that some users are experiencing difficulties accessing our services. We are working on this.

A few hours after the bugs began, activity returned to normal on Meta's social networks. The group explained that this was a technical problem.

"Earlier today, a technical problem prevented users from accessing some of our services. We have resolved this issue as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience," said Andy Stone.

Meta down, users decamp to X :

As usual, X is the network most used when such an event occurs. Which reminds us of the major outage experienced by Instagram and Facebook in 2021. Of course, Elon Musk jumped at the chance to gently mock his competitor:

"If you're reading this message, it's because our network works." he posted on X. This was followed by a tweet on the official X account: "We know why you're all here right now".

A bit of Irony, which gave us a good laugh.
