X introduces an updated version of its Communities feature to boost engagement.

X (formerly Twitter) is rolling out a revamped version of its Communities feature, which enables users to network around topics of interest, each with its own space and timeline. The update includes enhanced discovery tools, recommendations, search and sorting options. The main aim of these changes is to connect more X users with each other. Further enhancements are also planned for the future.

X's Communities: to connect users

The Communities feature allows users to publish on specific topics and participate in discussions within dedicated spaces. With this update, X aims to create a resource as valuable as Twitter's firehose and, according to experts, plans to rival Reddit . As part of the redesign, users can now discover trending community publications directly from an "Explore" tab within the section, separate from the general Explore tab that shows trends across X as a whole.

Improve community discovery and user recommendations

X should also start displaying user recommendations for communities on their timeline, a move that should draw more attention to the feature. The ability to search communities by subject will simplify and enhance discovery. Once a user has joined a community, it will be possible to sort publications according to the community's trends. This enhancement is designed to make user engagement within communities more streamlined and intuitive.
